We absolutely loved the Wye Valley. We were there just as the colours were turning for autumn. The cottage was brilliantly located and we walked miles along the riverbank and had a go at canoeing which was huge fun. We saw deer and so many birds. Our favourite visits were Tintern Abbey and Big Pit with the quirky Nelson Museum in Monmouth a good runner up. Local beer and wine both made in Tintern made our evenings complete. What a great place to camp, with almost instance access to lots of lovely forest paths. I especially love the forest at night, listening to the owls calling to each other. We have had a wonderful week of unbroken sunshine. We really didn't think it was possible this summer! We've had such fun enjoying the local walks, especially the circular route past the ruined chapel to Fairoak and back down the Angiddy Valley and the steep climb to the Devils Pulpit. Other highlights include Symonds Yat and the Kymin. We loved having the tawny Owls calling to each other each night and the buzzards mewing during the day!–The Cave family, Durham 2012
The Forest of Dean was great fun, from cycling along the old railway to exploring the forest roads with their uprooted grass verges left by the wild boar. The Forest of Dean has so much to offer....we cycled adventurous trails at the mountain biking centre, walked through the woods and watched the climbers and canoeist at Yat Rock. The dogs loved it, we loved it, we’ll definitely be back.–Steve and Bryony Gittens
