Said to have inspired the likes of J.R.R.Tolkien, J.K.Rowling and Dennis Potter, "Gloucestershire's greatest natural wonder", the Forest of Dean, is best explored by following The Royal Forest Route, which takes visitors on a 20-mile tour of the spectacular broad-leaf forest.
Springtime is one of the best times of the year to follow this route, when many areas, such as the Soudley Valley are filled with the most spectacular bluebells.
Canoeing & Kayaking
How about a day on the Wye? The unspoilt River Wye provides one of the most scenic areas in the UK and one of the best locations in the country for the novice or expert canoeist. Parts of the Wye are rapid enough to experience a white water adventure while the rest of the river is perfect for either developing your technique or for a leisurely paddle. Look out for kingfishers and peregrine falcons too!
Water Activities...
discover the wonderful world underwater by trying out a dive at the National Diving & Activity Centre near Chepstow. It is one of the UK's newest inland dive site and is set to become one of the most foremost inland diving centres in Europe offering a wide selection of courses for both young and old.
Parts of the River Wye are rapid enough to engage in white water kayaking, a totally rewarding and exhilarating experience suitable for novice and experts alike. Or discover the white water using state of the art inflatable rafts.
