Said to have inspired the likes of J.R.R.Tolkien, J.K.Rowling and Dennis Potter, "Gloucestershire's greatest natural wonder", the Forest of Dean, is best explored by following The Royal Forest Route, which takes visitors on a 20-mile tour of the spectacular broad-leaf forest.

Springtime is one of the best times of the year to follow this route, when many areas, such as the Soudley Valley are filled with the most spectacular bluebells.

Families Welcome  

Look out for the Families Welcome award, which is given to businesses that provide facilities and services for families of varying ages and combinations.

Accommodation establishments displaying this logo provide facilities specifically for your family and provide information to help make your stay more comfortable and enjoyable.

Pet's Welcome        

Don't leave Fido in the kennels when you go on holiday, bring him with you. A large number of accommodation providers in the Forest of Dean will allow you to bring pets by prior arrangement.

Some accommodation establishments have obtained the Pets Welcome accolade awarded by Visit Britain. Facilities are provided specifically for your pet and provides information to help make your stay more comfortable and enjoyable.

There are many establishments within the Forest of Dean that accept pets by prior arrangement, please note that not all have the Pets Welcome accolade.

Walkers Welcome 

Walking holidays are becoming ever popular, and the Forest of Dean is no exception. If you're a walker you will be looking for extra facilities to assist you whilst on holiday, and those with the Walkers Welcome award have gone the extra mile to assist.

Helpful extras include; facilities for drying outdoor clothing and footwear, first aid kits and packed lunches/pre-ordering of groceries available upon request.


Cyclists Welcome    

The number of people coming into the area for cycling is increasing. If you're a cyclist the Cyclists Welcome award is given to those establishments that provide extra facilities to assist you whilst on holiday.

Helpful extras include; facilities for drying outdoor clothing and footwear, lockable undercover area for bicycles, puncture repair kit available for use and packed lunches/pre-ordering of groceries available upon request.

So look out for the Walkers Welcome and Cyclists Welcome logos on accommodation that does this and much more!
